About Us
Family owned, community focused
The roots of Lansing Ice and Fuel are deep in greater Lansing.
It all began in 1906, when Gottlieb Ruetter started a business cutting ice from the Grand River and delivering it—along with fuel—on a horse-drawn wagon to residents and businesses.
More than a century later, the horse and wagon, and the ice-cutting, are distant memories. Our business has grown and evolved with new products, new services and a service area that has expanded throughout Ingham, Eaton, Shiawassee and Clinton Counties. In the 1990s, we formed LIFTco, a division of Lansing Ice & Fuel that installs, maintains and certifies lift and air compressor equipment, helping companies from car repair shops to dental offices reduce downtime and improve safety.
But Lansing Ice & Fuel is still family owned, with the fourth and fifth generations of the Ruetter family at the helm. And the values of quality work, fair pricing and community service that we’ve been dedicated to from the start are still at the core of how we do business in the Tri County region.
We live and work in the greater Lansing area. Our customers aren’t account numbers in a file, they’re our neighbors. That’s why we service the community by giving to and being involved in local organizations, including:
- Energy Bank of Ingham, Eaton, Shiawassee and Clinton Counties
- Area food banks
- Local schools
- Camp Highfields
- American Red Cross
- Salvation Army
- Rescue Mission
Using Lansing Ice & Fuel for your propane needs keeps your dollars in the community, supporting local workers like our drivers and other professionals, and supporting local businesses. We think that’s better than sending money away to national or multinational corporations.
We know your needs and can meet them, whether it’s by adding propane to your home or by scheduling an emergency delivery. We’re right down the road and here for you.
